Florin I. Niculescu MD, Ph.D. FACR

          Dr. Nic was born and educated in Romania. He graduated Medical School (M.D. degree) and then obtained a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry and immunology at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He came to the US as a research fellow at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He was then an intern and resident in Internal Medicine at “St. Agnes Hospital” in Baltimore MD, then a fellow in clinical rheumatology and immunology at the “University of Maryland School of Medicine”. He was actively involved in medical research at this institution and he is co-author of 8 book chapters and more than 80 research papers published in peer-reviewed medical journals in the field of immunology and immunopathology, with special reference to autoimmune mechanisms associated to rheumatic disorders.      Since February 2009 he is the co-owner and rheumatology practitioner in “Eldersburg Arthritis L.L.C.”.


Teodora M. Niculescu MD, Ph.D. FACR

     Dr. Teo was born and educated, like her husband Dr. Nic, in Romania. She graduated Medical School (M.D. degree) and then obtained a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She also came to the US as a research fellow at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She was an intern and resident in Internal Medicine at “St. Agnes Hospital” in Baltimore MD, then fellow in rheumatology and clinical immunology at the “University of Maryland School of Medicine”. She was actively involved in medical research since her medical training and she is a leader in the field of medical genetics especially the mutations in the genes related to the disease named phenylkentonuria (PKU).
As a rheumatology fellow, she was actively involved in epidemiological studies of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. She is a co-author of more than 40 research papers and medical reviews. Since February 2009 she is also the co-owner and rheumatology practitioner of “Eldersburg Arthritis LLC.”

Robert J. O'Brian, MD, FACR

          A native of Seattle, Washington, Dr. O’Brian has served in the Navy on both coasts and has deployed to various locales such as Afghanistan, the Mediterranean, Central and South America and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He trained and has been stationed at Walter Reed Bethesda for many years and now considers Maryland home. His close knit family consists of wife Laura and children Oscar and Emerson.
